In June 2010 Mark was offered a job in Kalmar at the Linneaus University and we decided to leave our beautiful place in Sörfors for a new life in the south of Sweden. Shortly afterwards I managed to get a position at Kalmar Energy.

We sold our house in Sörfors in October and found a new home in Färjestaden on Öland - an island just outside Kalmar, about 20 min drive across a 7 km long bridge.

Everything have gone surprisingly smoothly. The girls have settled into their new school and have already made many friends. Mark is working and I start my new job on the 10th of January 2011.

Scroll down to see some pictures from our new place!

We moved into our new house in Färjestaden, Öland around Halloween.
It is very misty in the autumn here, although the sun comes out and we go for nice walks. It is very flat and pretty on the island. Lots of oaks and fields reminds us of England. The girls are picking horse chestnuts.
We live about 300 meters from the sea. Spot the bridge in the far background.
There is also a ferry across, only in the summer though.
We had a snow storm in November which caused a lot of problems with traffic. There is usually not any snow until January which only stays for a short time. However, this Christmas seems to stay white!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Öland!

Taupo is situated next to a large lake (Lake Taupo) and the whole area is characterised by geothermal activities. In the background mountains with the three volcanic vents, of which the one to the left (Mt Ruapehu) had an eruption as recently as last September! As a matter of fact, the whole lake is a caldera, but is considered dormant.

Beach front of Taupo. The sand contains volcanic rock (pimpsten) and if you stick your feet in the sand in certain areas you might burn them from hot steam coming up from underground.

The road along the lake front is the national highway (incredibly quiet, if you compare to E4 or M25)!

New Zealand also got the great Eucalyptus (Gum tree).

The marina in Taupo.

Sailing competitions are popular. Apparently several regattas are being held every year.
